Months before every new season begins, we spend time scouting the hottest trends, colors, silhouettes, accessories, and style statements. Knowing the fall fashion trends is the most important part of being a stylist at BJ Wilson & Company. We stay current about what’s in fashion so we can ensure our clients look and feel their very best each season.
If you regularly read our blog, you know that all trends aren’t for everyone – but there is at least one trend for everyone. Adding a trend or two to your seasonal wardrobe is an easy way to stay stylish and not let the clothes you wear age you.
We want everyone to be in the know of what they should add to their closets for Fall 2019, that’s why each year we share our annual fall trend report. Learn what’s in, what’s out and what’s moving forward into the new season.
Without any more delay, here are our official must-have trends for the new season ahead. Be the first of your friends to start introducing these fall fashion essentials into your wardrobe. Trust us – you’ll be seeing a lot of these trends!

Our full-length annual color report for fall will be heading to the blog later this month, but in the meantime, we wanted to give you a taste of the trending fall color palette. Fall is heating up with these warm, toasty hues. Reds, yellows, and oranges of all shades are appearing on the runways, but these deep, “of the earth” tones are definitely the most popular. Browns, greens, mosses, beiges are moving forward as the new basics for the new season ahead. Pops of color like light peaches and pinks, deep mauve pinks are the perfect compliments to the earth-toned brown basics. We also love the direction the cool colors are going – with the slate-colored blues and greys. Stay tuned for more on fall colors coming soon on the style blog…
This season, we are seeing a lot of previous seasons’ trends carrying forward. Animal prints of all kinds are still crazy in-style. All the prints from snake, cheetah, zebra and even cow are being seen in stores and runways alike. Shoes with a little extra bling are carrying through into the new season as well. Anyway, footwear that is “extra” is going to be very on-trend for the season. We are seeing the “extra” in the form of glitter, crystal embellishments, shearling, crazy colors, big buckles, feathers, bows, studs. Platforms are a huge shoe trend, as well as flared block heels. As far as boots go – we are seeing a lot of printed tall boots – florals, animal prints, and abstract designs. Romantic lace-up style Victorian boots are also all over the runways. If you’ve been browsing fashion magazines, you’ve probably seen a surge in the military/utility-inspired clothing. This trend has made the way to shoes! The new ‘it’ trend is combat boots. We’ve seen the combat boots fashion and punk – embellished with studs and rhinestones, or very simple military-esque kicks.

This fall, don’t get lit, get knit. Knits are popping up all over stores and runways, but this isn’t your basic grandma’s knit sweater, these are chic fashion-forward knits. Matching knit co-ords, sweater dresses, skirts, ponchos, dresses, bags – we are seeing touches of knits all over the clothing, shoes, and accessories for the season. What’s cozier than a knit? We’ll wait… Fashion that’s warm and comfortable. Sign us up!
Ladies love purses, let’s be real. The new season is the perfect time to treat yourself to a new bag because there are some new, noteworthy trends worth welcoming to the wardrobe. First, let’s talk about the teeny-weeny, micro-mini bag trend. The smaller the better. Where we put our phone, keys, wallet, and lipgloss is to be determined. But if you are a trend hunter, go ahead and secure the perfect tiny bag for fall. Anything with a metal chain (long or short) is in style, this means cross body, off the shoulder, wristlets are all fair game. Plushy textured bags in knits, shearling, furs and other soft-blankety fabrics are hitting the runways. Croc, snake and other animal skins continue to stay on-trend. And last but not least – for something edgy, fun and not ordinary – go for a handbag with an interesting shape. Box bags, circle bags, interesting geometric shapes – anything goes as long as it’s different!

One of the biggest fall fashion trends is full-on head-to-toe coordinated looks. We are seeing this trend pop up in a number of ways. The first style we are seeing a lot of is one-color monochrome looks. SO CHIC. We are seeing them in LOUD colors (see more below in our style statements section), soft hues, earthy beiges, and winter whites. Whether you choose a skirt or pants, if you aren’t afraid of color – buy a fun, colorful monochrome outfit for fall. We are also seeing the head-to-toe coordinated looks featuring allover prints. Needless to say, our stylists love this trend. We are all big fans of prints. And what’s easier to coordinate a print with than the exact same print?! Brilliant!
The style statements for fall are looks that make an impression. These trends aren’t for everyone and won’t work for everyone’s lifestyle – but these are a lot of ways to incorporate these trends in subtle ways. This year we have the utility-inspired trend, we are seeing this trend featured in boiler suits/jumpsuits, cargo pants, and combat boots. It’s all about leather and lace for fall for a dark romance inspired look (think goth, but fashion). Literally, everything is leather – pants, skirts, tops, jackets, bag, shoes – you name it! And maybe if you are a certain well-known female recording artist, your pajamas are leather too. However you decide to incorporate leather – whether all over or little pops – you’ll be trendy for seasons to come.
We are also seeing the return of capes and ponchos as statement-making outerwear. We are also seeing outerwear reach new lengths. Longer-hem lines and calf or ankle-grazing jackets are all the rage for the new season. If you have a special event and need an attention-grabbing look, go with the liquid metal trend. These shiny metallics will be huge moving into 2020.
For our bold, daring fashionists, to put it simply, the fall fashion trends this season are FUN. If you are adventurous with your fashion choices then we have some fun ideas for you to bring into your fall wardrobe. Power suiting is still very much in style, but we are seeing this trend taken in a slightly new direction. Longer lengths, brighter colors, bulky lapels, head-turning bows, and other accessories are making the suit trend a little more exciting than your boyfriend blazer.
Asymmetrical necklines, hemlines, and tie-features are making an appearance in a big way this season. Florals, abstract, snake, plaids are the most popular prints. Other notable trends this season are feathers, balloon sleeves, cinched waists, and prep school prints. This fall fashion is glam, gorgeous and going to get you lots of compliments! Go big or go home this season!
