In BJ’s book, ‘An Expert’s Guide to Fashion Styling’, she talks about the importance of having color schemes in the wardrobe. She states, “every wardrobe should have a color scheme and sometimes two or three, depending on the client’s lifestyle and budget. A well-defined color scheme unifies the pieces in the closet, making coordination of garments simple. and gives wardrobe it’s extensibility.” Color schemes are the number one secret to having a functional wardrobe. The best news is that introducing one to your existing wardrobe is easier than you think!
Color Trends
Colors belong to color cycles which change every few years. These color cycles have an influence not only in the fashion world but in household goods, home furnishings, and even the auto industry. In fashion, color cycles span 2-7 years, which helps maintain some longevity for the wardrobe.
Color forecasts are the keys to understanding these clothing color schemes. Every season welcomes in its hot new colors. Color influencers like Pantone Institute release their trending colors forecast for each new season. But to know what colors are most in-style in fashion, it requires a little extra research. Our stylists spend a lot of time scouting local stores and boutiques, reading fashion magazines and researching designer runway collections to see which trending colors are most relevant in our client’s wardrobes each season.
Top 3 Color Schemes for Spring 2019
Each year we develop multiple potential color schemes for the new seasons based on what is trending. Back in January, we announced our trend predictions and color forecast for Spring. We are really excited about the new color palettes that are being introduced in the new year. Earth Toned Neutrals
One of the most exciting color trends for us this season is the return of earth-toned neutrals. Khaki, sand, beige, buff, nudes, browns and all the other ‘of the earth’ colors are making a comeback in 2019. Black and White + Houndstooth & Brights
Black and white doesn’t have to be boring. If you have a lot of black basics in your wardrobe for Spring, add pops of bright colors or complementary prints like houndstooth into the mix.
