Spring Style Statements

Posted on January 24, 2019

Now that we have covered the biggest trends of the upcoming season, it’s time to talk about the Style Statements. You may be wondering, what’s the difference between a Style Statements and a trend? Where the trends are safe for most people, the Style Statements are bold, different and not necessarily for everyone. The trends, like the current hot color palettes, prints, and fabrics (discussed on last week’s blog) are easier to incorporate and generally work for everyone regardless of age, body type or lifestyle. Although there is usually at least one Style Statement of the season that works for most people, these fashion-forward looks are certainly not for the faint of heart.

Top 10 Style Statements of Spring

Our team of personal stylists and shoppers spend a lot of time studying the new trends and Style Statements each season to ensure our clients look current. After a lot of time spent shopping and researching, we have settled on our top 10 Style Statements for the season. Check out our Top 10 below! Looking for even more Spring Fashion inspiration? Bike Shorts

Now here’s a polarizing Spring style statement! You either love it or you hate it, but bike shorts are making a comeback. This is one of the Style Statements that we aren’t loving, but it’s worth mentioning because this will be a major look throughout all of 2019. Bike shorts aren’t only being worn athletically anymore. This season we are seeing them paired with bold shouldered blazers, structured blouses, and daytime shoes and accessories. This skin-tight statement is going mainstream, are you ready for it? If you are, try this solid black pair by Alo. Or for you bolder fashionistas, nail two statements at once with this snakeskin print pair!

Feathers

Who doesn’t love feathers? Go bold with all over feathers or keep it simple with a feathered earring or handbag. 2018 style was about embracing everything extra, and 2019 will carry this attitude forward. We are seeing feathers being worn in all ways, and in all colors (especially the trending ones)!

Bows & Ruffles

Keeping true to the *extra* theme, we introduce our next style statement, bows and ruffles. Unleash your inner doll and pile on the feminine details with this girly-girl trend. Incorporating this style statement into your wardrobe doesn’t have to be as big and bold as the styles below. Adding a bow to your outfit could be as simple as adding a tie-neck silk blouse like this gorgeous one by Something Navy. Thinking about ruffles? This flirty, ruffled number by Dress the Population is the perfect Spring addition (we love it in the Canary or Garnet color)!

Bleached Denim

Bleached-out, acid-wash denim is back in a big way. Each Spring we see the return of a lighter shade of denim to break away from the darker tones of fall. This year, we are seeing washes even lighter and brighter. The bleached out look is definitely a style statement, but this is one that can be incorporated rather easily to most wardrobes. For our fashion lovers ready to roll with this style, take it straight from the runway to the streets with these 80’s inspired jeans by Isabel Marant or play it safe with this bleached-denim Jimmy Choo heel.

Power Suiting

Channel some executive realness by embracing the new power suit trend. This is a look that will definitely make a statement. The powerful shoulders and eye-catching colors help give this silhouette some serious ‘wow’ factor. Bold and beautiful, take charge by welcoming this trend into your Spring wardrobe. You can coordinate tops and bottoms together or rock the blazer as a separate. We are obsessed with this baby blue one by Tibi and this pretty Spring pink blazer by Joan Vass.

Surf’s Up!

The surf and scuba-inspired streetwear that we are seeing in designers Spring collections are definitely not for those looking to blend in. This bold material is getting repurposed in a new and fashionable way. Like the bike shorts, we are seeing the scuba material used on all types of garments outside the athletic swimwear world. We love this color-block scuba dress by Milly and these classic black scuba pants by Theory.

Big Evening Wear

Do you have a special event this Spring that calls for evening wear? Go big or go home with this year’s evening wear style statement. Big skirts, big shoulders, big silhouettes. The bigger the better. We are loving the gowns from the Carolina Herrera Spring collection. The collection features these big shapes in a very down-t0-earth and wearable way.

Sheer & Transparent

Like the bike shorts, the sheer fabric style statement leaves most people either loving it or shaking their heads in disapproval. Whether bearing it all is aesthetic or not, there are ways to tastefully welcome this trending statement without sacrificing modesty. If you want to try this style statement, grab a solid black cami to wear under a sheer blouse like this polka-dot one from Alice & Olivia. There are tons of styles online that already did the layering for you! Try this one by Victoria Beckham in light blue for a Springy feel.

Printed Headgear

Hats, headband, and headscarves are back again, carrying forward into the new year. This season, the trend in headwear is printed. Colorful patterns, florals, paisleys and more are being spotted on the runways. Throw one of your favorite scarfs around your head or opt for something new. For a high-end floppy hat, try this cool-toned beach hat by Emilio Pucci or this baseball-inspired floral cap by Gucci.

Fringe

Fringe, a local favorite, is on-trend and making a statement as it sashays into another new season. The fringe for spring is light, shimmery, ethereal and whimsical. This style statement can be worn soft and fairy-like or in edgier ways. This is a great, and safe style statement to introduce to your wardrobe as you begin transitioning to Spring. Adding fringed denim like this pair by Stella McCartney is the perfect transition piece. Looking for something a little less bold? Try a fringed bag like this crochet one by Isabel Marant.
